Functions and types of automobile oil cooler

The function of the oil cooler is to cool the lubricating oil and keep the oil temperature within the normal working range. On the high-power reinforced engine, due to the large heat load, the oil cooler must be installed. When the engine is running, the lubricating ability is reduced because the viscosity of the oil becomes thinner with the increase of temperature. Therefore, some engines are equipped with oil coolers, which are used to reduce the oil temperature and maintain a certain viscosity of the lubricating oil. The oil cooler is arranged in the circulating oil circuit of the lubrication system. The oil cooler oil pipe and oil pipe joint are connected with it.

Type of oil cooler

1) Air cooled oil cooler, the core of air-cooled oil cooler is composed of many cooling pipes and cooling plates. When the car is driving, the head-on wind of the car is used to cool the hot oil cooler core. Air cooled oil cooler requires good ventilation around. It is difficult to ensure sufficient ventilation space on ordinary cars, and it is generally rarely used. This kind of cooler is mostly used in racing cars because of its high speed and large cooling air volume.

2) Water cooled oil cooler the oil cooler is placed in the cooling water circuit and uses the temperature of the cooling water to control the temperature of the lubricating oil. When the temperature of the lubricating oil is high, it is cooled by cooling water. When the engine is started, it absorbs heat from the cooling water to rapidly raise the temperature of the lubricating oil. The oil cooler is composed of an aluminum alloy cast shell, a front cover, a rear cover and a copper core tube. In order to strengthen the cooling, a heat sink is set outside the tube. The cooling water flows outside the pipe and the lubricating oil flows inside the pipe, and the two exchange heat. There is also a structure that allows oil to flow outside the pipe and water to flow inside the pipe.
