Difference between HDPE and PE

Difference between HDPE and PE

HDPE is also known as high density polyethylene material. It is a kind of thermoplastic resin with high crystallinity and non polarity. The appearance of the original HDPE is milky white and translucent to a certain extent in the thin section. The polymer is non hygroscopic and has good water vapor resistance, which can be used for packaging purposes. HDPE has good electrical properties, especially the high dielectric strength of insulation, which makes it very suitable for wires and cables. Medium to high molecular grade has excellent impact resistance at room temperature or even -40f low temperature. HDPE is often used as pipe fitting , as well as some toy fittings, PK plug , audio.

Due to different strength, HDPE pipes must bear certain pressure. Generally, PE resins with large molecular weight and good mechanical properties, such as HDPE resins, should be selected. The strength is 9 times that of ordinary polyethylene pipe (PE pipe).

The wear resistance is different. Among all engineering plastics, HDPE has the highest wear resistance. The higher the molecular weight, the more wear-resistant the material, and even more than many metal materials (such as carbon steel, stainless steel, bronze, etc.), ordinary PE is only one tenth of HDPE.

HDPE pipes have different substitution effects. They are the replacement products of traditional steel pipes and polychloroprene drinking water pipes. However, PE polychloroprene can only be used as an external channel pipe, and even low-density PE pipes can only be used for water.

The scope of application is different. HDPE pipes are mainly used for: water supply system of municipal engineering, indoor water supply system of buildings, outdoor buried water supply system and buried water supply system of residential quarters and plant areas, old pipeline repair, water treatment engineering pipeline system, industrial water pipes in gardens, irrigation and other fields. Medium density PE pipes are only suitable for transporting gaseous artificial gas, natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas. Low density PE pipes are hoses.
