How to remove burrs on metal stampings?

The formation of metal stampings is mainly made by cold/hot stamping, extrusion, rolling, welding, cutting and other processes. It is inevitable that the metal stampings will have burr problems through these operations. How does the burr on the metal stampings form and how should it be removed?

Reasons for burrs on stamping parts:

1. Manufacturing error of the die: the processing of the die parts does not meet the requirements of the drawing, and the parallelism of the base plate is not good, which causes errors in the manufacturing of the stamping die;

2. Die assembly error: when assembling the die, the gap between the guide part is large, and the convex and concave die are not assembled concentrically;

3. The stamping die structure is unreasonable: the rigidity of the stamping die and the working part is not enough, and the blanking force is unbalanced;

4. Installation error of the die: the surface of the upper and lower base plates of the die is not cleaned during installation or the fastening method for the upper die of the large die is improper, and the upper and lower dies of the die are not installed concentrically, which causes the working part of the die to tilt.

Deburring method:

1. Hole: use the chamfering cutter or the front end of the drill with larger diameter

2. Edge: use file, oilstone, sandpaper, grindstone

3. Welding slag: a vibrating welding slag removal tool can also remove brittle burrs

4. Outer diameter: guide angle shall be conducted by lathe during processing

5. Polishing, grinding, sandblasting, depending on the workpiece and product requirements

2>. The deburring process of metal stamping parts should be determined according to the product. If it is a single product, it should be removed manually.

1. Use electrochemical deburring. If the equipment is self-made, the cost is not high, and it is economical, efficient and applicable.

2. Vibration grinding deburring (gear deburring) is of high efficiency and good quality.

3. Heat treated parts can also be deburred by shot peening, and surface stress can also be eliminated.

4. It is better to deburr with air gun and gun head of various shapes, and the efficiency is also high.

5. The following methods can be used to deburr the metal stamping parts of gears:

1) Electrolytic deburring has the highest efficiency and the best quality, but the equipment cost is too high for ordinary small enterprises to afford;

2) Vibration deburring, average quality, but low cost;

3) Manual deburring is of good quality, but the efficiency may be lower;

4) Rolling and stainless steel welding rods can be used;

6. Pneumatic deburring.
